Children’s SAFE Place Services:  Provides confidential advocacy to child victims of physical and sexual abuse and their non-offending family members. This center is organized to help reduce the trauma sometimes experienced in cases of suspected sexual abuse or in situations where a disclosure by a child has been made. Child interviews (videotaped) , medical exams (if needed), mental health referral, information & education, assessment of findings, case tracking, long-term support.

Under both grants, we focus on suicide, substance abuse and domestic violence prevention on a whole individualistic approach working with our people of the Hunkpati Oyate. Our approaches vary from contemporary to cultural teachings hosting and collaborating community events, school functions, and youth camps. We also provide services such as support groups, group therapy, and therapy through the Behavioral Health Department such as; Talking Circle, Aftercare, D.U.I Classes, Family counseling, CBT, telehealth, D&A counseling, and much more. Conduct age appropriate learning activities in the child’s home to encourage parents to be self-sufficient in raising their child(ren), up to age 5yrs old. SDSU Extension has been facilitating the Community Wellness Coalition in Crow Creek for (almost) 4 years. We work together as a group to brainstorm, plan, and implement nutrition and physical activity programs in the community. Some examples over the past several years include: Smarter Lunchrooms, Stock Healthy Shop Healthy, and Community Gardening. All community members are invited and encouraged to attend our monthly meetings, typically held on the fourth Thursday of the month at noon.

We also offer nutrition education classes in the community, typically in schools, clinics, after school programs, etc. Please reach out to us to request programming for your site or group!

Native Connections Program will provide prevention services to the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and Crow Creek School District located in South Dakota over a five year period. The Native Connections Program aims to provide culturally-relevant prevention services to youth ages 10 -18 that are enrolled in the Crow Creek School District. The Native Connections Program seeks to implement prevention services by increasing access to resources and to ensure high-quality education and training services to promote a healthy and positive lifestyle for at risk youth.
